An active fitness/exercise regimen is a key part to good health and a long life. Although our bodies are strong, they can also be more sensitive than we imagine. Eating unhealthy and not exercising can wreck havoc on your life in the long run. It is recommended that we all do at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. Can you do that?
I know for me, the hardest part of a workout regimen is sticking to it. Like millions of Americans I have started New Year’s Resolutions only to not get past January. After having my first child in 2007, I gained 30 pounds. It actually wasn’t such a huge deal considering I was only about 110 pounds pre-pregnancy. However, a year after he was born, the 30 pounds were still with me. And then baby number two was born in 2009. I gained an additional 30 pounds to my small frame. At this point, I definitely did not feel like myself. I decided to go on a healthy diet and exercise walk daily. That lasted all of a few weeks. I did lose 5 pounds, but I don’t the results were fast enough to get me to change my lifestyle. It seemed that I was just not one of “those work out people”.
Now here we are in 2011. I am down 25 pounds from my heaviest. It has been quite an accomplishment and amazing to see my hard work pay off. For me, I knew that going to the gym or committing to a daily workout regimen was not for me. So I decided to change my lifestyle. I buy more fruits and veggies. Brown rice and pasta instead of white, little things like that. That way I don’t feel like I am missing out on my favorite food items. I also started a new job this year. They offer parking right next to the building for a monthly fee. I started working at the company at the end of the month and they did not offer partial parking permits. So they suggested I park on the street until the new month. It was a little over two weeks. I parked about six blocks away there and back. At the beginning of the month, I noticed that all of my pants were looser. I decided to weigh myself, I’d lost 5 pounds! When I calculated, I was walking about 12-15 blocks a day. I was exercising and didn’t ever realize it! In just five months I have lost 25 pounds and just by eating healthier and walking. Just a few small changes can change your life.
